Mayor Robert Garza Robert Garza was elected Mayor of Del Rio on June 21, 2014, winning the first four-year mayoral term in the City’s history. Mayor Garza has earned a reputation for his commitment to economic development, financial stewardship and community-based programs to address quality-of-life issues, education, and public safety.
Garza has been dedicated to public service for over 20 years, beginning in 1988 while serving on the San Felipe Del Rio C.I.S.D. School Board until 1994. In 1996 Garza was elected to the Del Rio City Council, as Councilman-at-Large Place B, and went on to serve the community as a city councilman until 2004. Finally, serving as a member of the City Charter Revision Committee from 2013-2014.
This dedication carried over into his professional life as well, establishing his Law Practice in 1981 Mayor Garza sought to establish a practice where the best interests of his clients would always come first. As a result, his Law Practice quickly grew and Garza became a sought after attorney, representing clients in both state and federal courts. Garza also served as Del Rio's City Attorney from 1982-1987, focusing on the City Charter, laws and policies that affect our governing body.
Mayor Garza earned his Bachelor of Science Degree with Highest Honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978, graduating as a Distinguished College Scholar. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor Degree with Distinction from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio in 1981.
Mayor Garza is a proud parent of Nicole, Daniel, Raphael, Natalie, and Joseph.
