Councilperson, District II

     James “Jim” DeReus was elected to represent the City of Del Rio, District II on June 23, 2018. Councilman DeReus was born in Iowa and graduated from West Iron County High School in Iron River, MI in 1988. He earned his BS in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy in 1994. 

     Councilman DeReus graduated from pilot training at Laughlin AFB in 1995, staying as a T-37 instructor pilot until 1999.  After leaving Del Rio, the DeReus family was assigned throughout the US before returning to Del Rio in 2010.  Mr. DeReus retired from the US Air Force in 2014 as a T-6 instructor pilot and currently instructs in the T-6 simulator. 

     Mr. DeReus is a member of the Protestant parish at the Laughlin AFB chapel and serves as the Parish Council President.  He is also a member of the Val Verde Mason’s Lodge, currently serving as the Master of the Lodge.  He and his wife Sheran have been married for over 19 years and are proud parents of their son, Michael.
