Del Rio Police Department: Fraudulent Calls

PD Fraudulent Calls

Del Rio Police Department wishes to inform the public to be aware of fraudulent calls being made by scammers using their phone number (830) 774-2711. This process is known as “spoofing” - a spoof call is the practice of causing the telephone network to indicate to the receiver that the originator of the call is a station other than the true originating station. For example, a caller ID display might display a phone number different from that of the telephone from which the call was placed. This process causes the receiver to answer the local or known phone numbers thinking the call is originating from a known agency.

On 07/31/2019 a citizen received several fraudulent calls from the Del Rio Police Dept. phone number 830-774-2711. The caller claimed to be calling from the Social Security Administration and demanded money to be paid via a pre-paid card. The card was to be purchased at local Dollar General Stores, Family Dollar Stores or Stripes. Please be aware of this new technique being used by SCAMMERS.

Do not engage into conversation with the scammers this can avoid the possibility of releasing personal information.

Do not provide identifying information, or banking information to the callers.
