City of Del Rio Municipal Court Internship Program

An Opportunity to Gain First-Hand Experience in the Local Court and Justice System

Description

 

Position/Function - The City of Del Rio Municipal Court is offering internship opportunities for high school juniors or seniors and local college and law students who are eager to learn about the judicial process and contribute meaningfully to the justice system. This program is designed to provide a comprehensive, hands-on experience in court operations while fostering professional growth and understanding of the local court system. This program provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the workings of the justice system while developing practical skills and building a foundation for a career in criminal justice. 

Internship Details

  • Duration: A minimum of six weeks, with the possibility of extension if the intern wishes.
  • Schedule: Part-time (1-3 days per week depending on the student’s availability).
  • Compensation: Unpaid; however, interns may earn community service hours.
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week.

     

    Program Highlights

    As an intern with the City of Del Rio Municipal Court, you will:

  • Assist Court Clerks with a variety of tasks, including processing and maintaining court filings and records.
  • Observe court proceedings, including trials and other judicial processes.
  • Participate in post-hearing discussions with Judge Flores to discuss any questions regarding the judicial process. 
  • Learn about the roles within the justice system and the community at large.

  • Short Essay: A brief statement describing your career goals.
  • Two Letters of Recommendation: At least one letter must be from a current or past teacher.

  • Internship offers are contingent upon successful completion of a security background check.

Environment

Duties are generally performed in an office environment. Possible exposure to dust and/or mold. Duties may also require some periods of outdoor activities, which may produce exposure to inclement and extreme weather or allergens.
