Bio:

James DeReus was born in Iowa and graduated from West Iron County High School in Iron River, MI in 1988. He earned his BS in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy in 1994.

DeReus graduated from pilot training at Laughlin AFB in 1995, staying as a T-37 instructor pilot until 1999. After leaving Del Rio, the DeReus family was assigned throughout the US before returning to Del Rio in 2010. Mr. DeReus retired from the US Air Force in 2014 as a T-6 instructor pilot and currently instructs in the T-6 simulator.

He is a current a member and past Master of the Val Verde Mason’s Lodge. He and his wife Sheran have been married for over 27 years and are proud parents of their son, Michael.

Bio:
Alvaro “Al” Arreola was born in Ciudad Acuña,, Coahuila, Mexico. One of nine siblings, Arreola relocated to the United States in 1967 with his mother. After graduating from Del Rio High School in 1977, Arreola landed a job at the local Zales jewelry store. Arreola is currently the store manager for the Zales in Del Rio and has been with the company for 43 years. 

Al Arreola has been heavily involved in the community for many years. A seasoned volunteer, Arreola served on the San Felipe Del Rio C.I.S.D Board of Trustees from 1997-2003, the Del Rio City Council from 2010 – 2014, the Del Rio Economic Development Corporation from 2018 – 2021, on the Val Verde Regional Medical Center Board from 2018 – 2022 and currently serves on the Middle Rio Grande Workforce Finance Committee.

Arreola has been married to his lovely wife, Myrella for 42 years and they are the proud parents of Al Jr. and Myrella Isabel. 

Arreola is committed to dedicating more funding for community improvements, investing in security, law enforcement and first responders. A businessman and true advocate for Del Rio, Arreola pledges to have a strict focus on the community.

Arturo Rodriguez, born and raised in Del Rio. Conservative, Honest, owe no favors and not a member of any organization.

GOALS FOR THE CITIZENS:

1. START ON FIXING WATER ISSUE NOW!!
2. Vote NO and oppose second international bridge. NOT NEEDED. IT’S A WANT.
3. Vote NO and oppose any utility increases.
4. Lower and or vote NO to any future city permits rate increases.
5. Vote NO to any property tax increases, Appraisal district raises values annually!
6. Require ALL city employees to reside in the city. transition period! 6 months.
7. Vote NO to any administrative raises.
8. Vote NO to revising City Charter just to accommodate employment requirements.
9. Vote NO to any subsidized airline OR spending to get one.
10. Lower the international bridge fees. Raise it on the Maquilas not the residents.
11. Pressure Port of Entry to open all lanes not just two plus a Sentry Lane. Accomplished before current administration.
12. NO to 95k Police patrol vehicles. Were on a budget. Only the U.S. uses expensive gas guzzlers.

Raised on a dairy farm, I learned early the value of hard work, personal responsibility, and faith. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and rose to the rank of Sergeant. As Communications Chief and section leader, I oversaw mission-critical systems and led junior Marines.

In the private sector, I managed more than one million dollars in inventory, gaining firsthand experience in efficiency and accountability. For the past six years, I have proudly served our nation and Del Rio as a United States Border Patrol Agent.

I am running for Mayor because our city government must operate within its proper limits, remain financially responsible with taxpayer dollars, and focus on serving the people—not expanding bureaucracy.

Del Rio families work hard for their money, and city government should live within its means just like our households do. As Mayor, I will prioritize responsible budgeting, transparency, and policies that protect taxpayers.

I am committed to the LIFT principles—Limited Government, Individual Liberties, Free Enterprise, and Traditional Values. By cutting unnecessary red tape, protecting property rights, and promoting Del Rio’s entrepreneurial spirit, we can strengthen local businesses, attract new investment, and create jobs without raising taxes or adding new burdens.

Del Rio deserves disciplined, accountable leadership—and I am ready to serve.

Bio:

Born and raised in Del Rio, I have always believed in giving back to the community that has given me so much. My commitment to service was inspired by my parents, Tony and Carmen Reyes, who dedicated their lives to helping others through civic and community organizations.

I graduated from Del Rio High School in 1986 and went on to study Business Administration at Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University. After working in Austin for several years, I returned home in 1997 to begin my career with the City of Del Rio as its first Transportation Coordinator.

During my 20 years with the city, I served in several leadership roles, including Transportation Director, WIC Director, Operations Director, Interim Community Services Director, Interim Economic Development Director, and Grant Writer. These experiences gave me valuable knowledge of city operations, budgeting, and the services our residents depend on.

While serving as Transportation Director and grant writer, I helped secure more than $2.5 million in funding for the city, supporting departments such as Transportation, Fire, and Economic Development. One of my proudest accomplishments was securing a $1.2 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation that helped fund the Southern Pacific Rehabilitation Project and the city’s new Transportation Depot.

I remain actively involved in the community through organizations such as the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Del Rio Main Street Board, where I currently serve as Vice-Chair.

With my experience and lifelong commitment to Del Rio, I respectfully ask for your vote for City Council District 1.

Tina Martinez graduated from San Felipe High School in 1965 and then attended the Gemological Institute of America. 

Tina worked for Woods Jewelers for 12 years, and 8 years at the J.C. Penny jewelry department in Del Rio. For 14 years Martinez was the small business owner & operator of Francis Florist Shop. 

Martinez is currently part of the San Felipe Board of Directors & Del Rio Host Lions Club. She is currently the Secretary for the International Good Neighbor Council and current Fiesta de Amistad Parade Chair. Tina is also currently the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Education Director. 

Mrs. Martinez is a member of the Retired Senior Volunteers Program & life member of the VFW Chaplain. She is also the American GI Forum Women’s Chapter Chairwoman. Past President of the Brown Plaza Association & Quad Counties Council, as well as past member of the Operation Troop Family Support & Del Rio Main Street Program. 

Mrs. Martinez was married to the late Sgt. Jose "Joe" Martinez and has three sons, a stepson, and a stepdaughter.
