Dismissals
Several types of traffic violations can be “dismissed for compliance.” These citations are listed below, along with the requirements for obtaining such a dismissal. Please be sure to include your citation number on any documents submitted to the Court.
If you receive a citation for any of the reasons listed below and you meet the specified requirements, your case may be dismissed. Valid proof must be presented to the court either at the court window Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or you can mail your proof along with any required dismissal fees.
In order to have these types of violation(s) dismissed, you must submit proof that you have remedied the violation plus the dismissal fee within 20 working days of the date the citation issuance.
- Expired Motor Vehicle Registration/License Plate
- Must show proof of renewed registration within 20 days of receiving the citation;
- Pay any late registration fees assessed by the county assessor-collector at the time or registration; AND
- Pay $20 fee.
- Expired Driver's License
- Must show proof of renewed license within 20 days of receiving the citation; and
- Pay $20 fee.
- The temporary paperwork given to you by DPS is sufficient as proof.

- Failure to Display Driver's License
- Must show proof of valid license on the date you received the citation; and
- Pay $20 fee.

- Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
- Proof of insurance must be received within 20 business from the date your citation was issued; AND
- Pay $20 fee.
- The Court will verify with the insurance provider or other authority the authenticity of the document. If the document demonstrates proof of financial responsibility in place at the time the citation was issued, the citation will be dismissed.

- Failure to Change Address or Name
- Must remedy within 20 days of receiving the citation;
- Must show proof of driver's license address change; AND
- Pay $10 fee.
- The temporary paperwork given to you by DPS is sufficient as proof.
- Operate Vehicle With Defective Required Equipment
- Must remedy within 20 days of receiving the citation;
- Must show proof that the defect has been remedied and the offense did not occur on a commercial motor vehicle.; AND
- Pay $20 fee.
- The proof may be in a form of a receipt, photographs, or visual inspection of the vehicle by court personnel or police officer.
- Listed below are common defective equipment violations however additional violations may be included.
- Defective head lamp(s)
- Defective tail lamp(s)
- Defective turn signal lamp(s)
- Defective stop lamps(s)
- Muffler violation
- Improper, defective, or no mud flaps
- Tinted headlamps, tail/stop lights
- Window tint restrictions
- Unauthorized red, white, or blue lights
All Other Violation Dismissals
There is no automatic administrative dismissal process by the judge for most of the violations filed in Municipal Court. You have the right to schedule your case for trial before a judge or a jury. If the judge or the jury finds that you are not guilty of the offense, you will be acquitted and will not be required to pay the citation. If the judge or the jury finds that you are guilty of the offense, you will be required to pay a fine set by the judge or jury that heard your case.
You may submit your proof one of two ways:
In-Person: You may appear at the Court window between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M-F (except holidays) and speak with the clerk. You will need to bring your valid Texas driver's license or other government-issued photo ID and your proof of the remedied violation plus the dismissal fee.
By Email: You may submit your proof by email and email it to municipalcourt@cityofdelrio.com The court will review it and respond accordingly. If approved, your violation will be officially dismissed and closed once you pay the dismissal fee.
