The mission of the Nutrition and Social Services for the Elderly is to improve the quality of life for the elderly citizens (60 years of age or older) of Del Rio by encouraging and providing a sense of community among the participants. In an effort to accomplish this goal a variety of social activities are offered on a regular basis, playing a crucial role in the social and mental well being of the elderly.

An application must be completed by Nutrition staff prior to receiving services.

Services

• Lunch in a group setting served from 12:00-1:00pm

• Home-delivered meals are delivered between 10:00am-2:00pm

• Activities available during hours of operation: pool playing, loteria, dominoes, TV Entertainment and dancing/listening to music

• Free transportation services for Nutrition participants to area doctors, outpatient clinics, attorneys, hospitals, service agencies, and other essential destinations from 9:00-10:00am and 2:00-4:30pm

• Support system providing the participants with translations, phone reassurance, bill explanation, letter reading and writing, problem solving any issues that the elderly may have

Deposits can be made by check or money order made out to The City of Del Rio. The remainder is due one week prior to the event.
